Lowri Roberts completes Snowdon Marathon for CLEFT
With a culmination of months of hard training, Saturday 29th of October saw me doing my biggest challenge yet, the Brooks Snowdonia Marathon Eryri. Considered to be the toughest, yet most picturesque, marathon in the UK, it is certainly one of the most popular, with places all taken within 12 hours!
I’m a Gog (abbreviation of Gogledd, a term for North Walians) , raised on the outskirts of Snowdonia, the area is a very special place and, has a certain magic to it, where better to push myself to the limits! The race started just outside Llanberis with over 2500 runners and followed the route which climbed to the top of Llanberis Pass, past lakes and woodland, through the picturesque villages of Nant Gwynant, Beddgelert and Rhyd Ddu before one last rapid climb to about 1,200ft at Bwlch y Groes and then downhill to the finish in Llanberis. The dramatic scenery, familiar faces at drink stations and fantastic support from the crowds (particularly the family) made it a wonderful yet unforgettable experience!
