Art Workers Guild Concert and Exhibition
27th January 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm£35
Join CLEFT for a wonderful evening of music and art at the Art Workers Guild in London.
Giles Francis (violin) and Marije Vijselaar (harp) first made their acquaintance at a benefit concert in England, in 2016.
In January 2019 they will perform together at a special concert to help raise money for CLEFT.
Their various common histories also brought them together: Giles grew up in the Cotswolds but has lived many years as a musician in Holland; whereas Marije grew up in Holland but has lived until recently in Hatherop, Gloucestershire.
Luckily, their passion for music united them, as well as passion for the West Country! Since their successful debut in 2016 they have performed regularly together; & Marije’s return to the Netherlands has also made this much easier.
The repertoire for violin and harp lends itself beautifully to both instruments. The programme today -‘Choices’’- is comprised of varied music from diverse styles and periods.
Giles Francis was born in London, read Music at Cambridge University and studied violin at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He was Principal Viola for 10 years of the Netherlands Ballet Orchestra, and has played regularly with the English Chamber Orchestra,London Symphony,Chamber Orchestra of Europe,Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra,Rotterdam Philharmonic and Netherlands Chamber Orchestra.
Giles also played for 8 years as 2nd violinist of the Dante String Quartet, and thereafter the Rubens Quartet – both of which have previously performed for CLEFT.
Marije Vijselaar was selected aged just 16 for the Young Talent Programme at the Sweelinck Conservatorium of Amsterdam, under Erika Waardenburg, reaching both her Bachelor and Masters.
Marije is much in demand as a solo performer and teacher in the Netherlands. She was also for a time in the commercial aspect of the harp, as Sales Manager of Clive Morley Harps, in England – the oldest existing harp shop in the world.
Tickets are now available to see Marije and Giles perform at a special concert in January 2019 to raise money for CLEFT.
As well as the musical performance there will also be a one-off exhibition showing illustrations by artist Andrew Pegram and photography from Bangladesh by Paul Whittaker.
