Ethical Fundraising Policy Last updated November 2025. Next update due November 2027 Purpose CLEFT is committed to fundraising that is legal, open, honest, and respectful. This policy ensures public trust and protects our beneficiaries, supporters, staff, trustees and volunteers. This policy covers all fundraising activities including: face-to-face, telephone, direct mail, email, text, digital, events, and supporter activities. Our Principles Lawful: Comply with UK charity law, Charity Commission guidance, and the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice. Respectful: No pressure or harassment; we will stop contact if requested and always honour Fundraising Preference Service (FPS) requests. Sensitive: Take special care when fundraising around traumatic subjects; avoid emotional manipulation. Transparent: Provide clear, accurate information about how donations are used. Protecting the vulnerable: Take extra care when engaging with people who may be in vulnerable circumstances. Not exploit distress or lack of understanding to obtain donations. Accountable: Trustees oversee fundraising, review complaints, and manage risks. Fundraising and Accepting Donations We only fundraise and accept donations that support our charitable aims. We may refuse donations that are illegal, outside our charitable objects, or that carry serious reputational risk. The Board of Trustees collectively takes responsibility for checking that there are no concerns regarding the source of large donations received and processed by CLEFT. These extra checks should be carried out for donations of over £3,000 received within the UK or over £5,000 from outside the UK. Third Parties Any agencies or individuals fundraising for CLEFT must follow this policy and the Code of Fundraising Practice. Data and Privacy We comply with UK GDPR. Donors and supporters can opt out of communications at any time. FPS requests will be actioned promptly. Complaints Concerns about fundraising will be dealt with quickly and fairly. If unresolved, donors can contact the Fundraising Regulator and/or follow CLEFT’s complaints policy. Oversight & Review The Chief Operations Officer is responsible for monitoring this policy and reporting any concerns and/or complaints to the Board of Trustees. This policy is reviewed every two years.
