Being born with a cleft can effect everyone differently. In the best case scenario it involves multiple operations which can be costly and traumatic for the patients and their families. At the other end of the scale those suffering from clefts in the developing world are often not treated until later life leaving them often as social outcasts, sometimes unable to eat or speak easily. Through its sponsorship of research projects CLEFT aims to find better treatments and possibly even prevent this condition, but they can't do it without our support!
