I have signed up to ride a bicycle for 100 miles in one day in RideLondon2024 in May. And I’ve persuaded my brother, Richard, my  nephew, Jon, and my nephew-in-law, Simon, to join me. This is truly a challenge.

But it’s worth it to support the charity CLEFT: Bridging the Gap.

The CLEFT Charity has 2 great aims: to support sustainable and multidisciplinary cleft care in lower and middle income countries (surgery is important but only part of the journey), and to support research into the causes and provision of cleft care in the UK.

As a Consultant Plastic Surgeon specialising in cleft lip and palate for 24 years, I loved my work. I would also have loved to do more research to find the evidence to underpin the care I gave, evidence which is currently surprisingly lacking. The annual opportunity CLEFT offers to apply for funds for cleft research is the only one of its kind. It will drive up the quality of cleft research and provide evidence to improve the care cleft clinicians provide all over the world.

But we need your support!  Support that will help us train so that we can get round a 100 miles in the 8 hours it’s likely to take me, and most importantly to fund CLEFT to continue their excellent work.

We will do the pedalling. But the aim is to raise money for CLEFT and we can’t do that without you!!

Thank you so much for whatever you can give.

Rona, Richard, Jon and Simon
