The British Dental Students' Association (BDSA) is a student body run by an annually elected Executive Committee and student representatives from each UK dental school. The Association was founded in 1942 and today represents over 5,000 dental students in the UK. The BDSA is part of the European Dental Students’ Association (EDSA) which represents the voice of over 70,000 dental students in 33 countries in the WHO European Region.

The BDSA President, Joshua Kennedy, is a 5th year dental student at Queen’s University Belfast. Joshua successfully proposed CLEFT as the BDSA Chosen Charity at the BDSA Council Meeting in April 2022. Joshua discusses his aims as President of the BDSA in the August Edition of the BDJ Student: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41406-022-0344-5 . In this article, Joshua discusses the importance of students being involved in charity work and having an impact on their community. Joshua hopes to establish an award that commends UK dental schools with exceptional contributions to charities and/or communities.

Joshua continues to raise money for CLEFT by running the Berlin Marathon in 2023. He is also part of the QUB CLEFT Society. The QUB team has been very active in raising awareness on social media (instagram:@qub_cleft) and within the University. QUB CLEFT have taken part in many social and sporting activities to raise vital funds for CLEFT.
